    Many cruise guests choose this tour. Since Mdina is inland, you'll first need transport from Valletta Cruise Port, which can easily be arranged by taxi, bus or private transfer.

    Mdina is known as the Silent City because very few people live within its ancient walls, and traffic is heavily restricted. Its peaceful streets and beautifully preserved medieval atmosphere make it one of Malta's most unique destinations.

  • Are the catacombs difficult to visit?

    The underground sites involve stairs and some narrow passages. They are suitable for most visitors but may not be ideal for anyone with limited mobility or severe claustrophobia.

  • Is the tour accessible?

    Due to cobbled streets, steps and underground attractions, this tour is not fully wheelchair accessible.

  • What happens if it rains?

    The tour operates in most weather conditions.

Fascinating history tour

Guide James, a history teacher by profession, was an ideal fit for this tour, bringing real depth of knowledge to the walk. Since Mdina is a living, working city rather than a museum with interpretation boards, having a guide on hand makes its history far more accessible than exploring alone. A must for anyone visiting Rabat and Mdina.

Carmel, passionate historian and great guide

Guide Carmel stood out for his attentiveness, regularly flagging what was coming next and pointing out uneven surfaces to keep the group of 25 safe, all at a pace that worked for everyone. His passion for the history came through clearly, distinguishing established fact from more speculative stories while still making both engaging, and his sense of humour helped hold everyone's attention through three hours in hot weather. The one suggestion offered was a drinks or comfort stop partway through. A thoroughly recommended tour and guide.
